Inspected under car and engine bay - can't seem to find any oil leakage. However, can't explain why my car goes through so much oil. Nearly drove the car to bone dry a month ago. Added oil, got an oil change....month later - and now need MORE oil.

Explain.

you need piston rings, valve stem seal....or rather put it this way...its either you want to rebuild the motor, get a rebuilt motor or go get a new car.....but yah ...your rings are fried...check for blue smoke on your exhaust....

i second that opinion as well....been there done that...best bet is to go to a junkyard and find a good engine like i did.

Just because your oil level decreases doesn't mean you're LEAKING oil. As a matter of fact, you're BURNING it, which is why you don't see any leaks.

The only way you're going to stop it is to either use additives (big no no), or rebuild the engine, which is probably more than your escort it worth.

You can find a new engine, or you can just suck it up and make sure that you keep enough oil in the engine.

but a side note to what siragan said.....if you are burning oil now and its considerably noticable...then its prolly gonna get worse..

My old engine used to and it got to the point i'd have to put in a quart every 50 or so miles...it was bad...then the engine blew.

if you're going to rebuild it, you might as well BUILD it while you're at it. but if you're not happy with gas prices already, you're definitely not going to like buying premium all the time. one way or another, you're going to be paying out a chunk of change. just how much is up to you.

I have to run 93 octane in my mistu 3kgt. It still gets 30mpg, though.

I still miss my festiva though. You could run that thing on soap and water and still get 43mpg. I still think I may get one, gut it out, advance the timing to the point where it almost knocks, and then upgrade the ignition, intake, and exhaust system and see if I can pull 47 on pump gas. That'd be the shizzle my nizzle.

put a piece of cardboard under your engine.........wipe off gunk around the sides of the block and at the head..... then see if the gunk comes back. If no spots under car and gunk doesnt come back then the oil is going elsewhere...Either getting burned, someone is syphoning your oil(not being serious) or its going into your coolant lines.

Either way a noticeable drop in oil is not the sign of a healthy engine.

and btw siragan.....lucky you. My 300Z runs on 93oct and i only get 25mpg on highway and around 22 in city.

Ok.

I went to my local oil change shop and did an oil change. I asked if the expected amount of old oil came out after the oil filter was removed and the mechanic said yes. I only added one quart extra. In fact, the oil was not as acrid and black as I would have expected.

I had checked the oil level in the dark on my driveway. Perhaps I was mistaken.

NO blue smoke or burning oil smell when I drive. Also, my car has absolutely NO leaks whatsoever. Not bad for a 10 year old car.

I had them drop in that Penzoil for high mileage vehicles and will monitor the oil level.

On another note, I had a noticeable groan when I turn right. Not sure where the sound is coming from, but it sounds like undo strain on the engine. Possibly a front end issue as well.

I replaced the ball joint on the passenger side, but not the driver's. Stupid. I know. I am replacing that too Monday.

Are there are front end issues that I should be aware of?

Back to the oil issue: I will monitor and post replies on this Forum as an update.
