Try new spark plugs, I'm totally serious. Always #1 reason my cars do that. It is almost ALWAYS why my vehicles do that. Using old/wrong/etc spark plugs. I know you did this but maybe try some new ones? They don't cost much. Make sure to get the ones that are original for the car though. That's what I recommend.

For instance, a while back I sprayed my old ones with carb cleaner and cleaned them with a brush and the car drove terrible. Got new ones and it ran fine. The cleaner gummed up the tip and made it run terrible :(
Residue fouled it out.

Maybe your cam or crank sensor? Test them with a voltage meter. Check the compression too.

Is this in your 89lx? Have you checked the plugs ? what about the MAP? Its base timing right? I think stock on a CFI is 8-10BTC, Is the injector good? And how hot is a hot idle ?
If the idle air motor is bad you will get a very odd idle, it will go between a low and high idle, or at lest I seen that on my escort.

First gens don't have those.

sorry 1989 1.9 cfi new map sensor timing is correctly set after pulling the spout connector. If I watch the injector it sputters sometimes It is a 1 year old holley injector. hot as in warmed up to temp. gauge reads right in the middle can hold the radiator hoses with a bare hand. new thermostat less then 2 months old.

I had a bad TPS connector that caused my injector to glitch like you're describing. Try wiggling the connector while it's running and see if it consistently acts up as you wiggle.

ok so looks like I got some really bad gas had to fill up at a place I usually don't go but needed the gas changed the first filter helped but then started acting bad again put in a second filter figure that should be good now but the problems were still there so I started to troubleshoot everything else then I figured hell let me just check the dang filter again yep it was plugged up so now on my 3rd filter each change makes it better. I filled a clean mason jar half full with the gas that was causing these issues let it evaporate off when it did there was a jelly like substance at the bottom, I fueled up went straight home and made it halfway to work when It started doing all this so It has to be the gas station unless my local squirrels got mad cause they haven't had some peanuts for awhile and they did something? Ha Ha Ha. thanks for everyone's help hope this fixes it now!
