Look through the past posts its in there I know for a fact. I did mine about a year or so ago. If it helps it goes over the alternator, under a idler pully, then over the powerstearing pump, around the A/C. I know that much by heart. Im not sure where it goes from there I believe it goes to the crank pully but im not sure.

 

It's a right handed thread I believe.

Thanks for the diagram. It will be a big help when I put the belt back on. I can't believe there are 8 pulleys on this engine.
I also got crank shaft pulley off. I had to use a 1/2" impact gun to remove the bolt. It did so without turning the crankshaft. thanks again.

I have a new drivebelt back on with routing as in the diagram, (thanks) but I'm trying to find out if there is a release on the tensionser. I see a black pin on top but I'm not sure what that is supposed to do, if anything. The problem I'm having is trying to get the new belt around the tensioner. I've got it on the pulleys, but I'm wondering if there is a way to slacken the tensioner so I can get the belt around it. When I turn it clockwise with a ratchet, it eases off some, but is that the only way slacken it to get the belt back on?

Got it to work by just adding clockwise turns to the tensioner and then holding it tight while I wrestled the belt around the AC pully with my other hand. Running fine now, thanks.

 

Update to Serpentine belt replacement procedure

The Image of the belt placement was right on. One variation on installation is that (working from underneath after dropping the splash guard assy.) I managed to get a 7/16" open end wrench on the tensioner pulley bolt and fully slacken it and wedge it against an AC pulley bolt so it stayed. Then I found it easier to wrestle the belt onto the upper pulley marked as #3 in the diagram. The tensioner pulley does slacken clockwise as stated. This info made my installation relatively easy given the cramped area my hands had to work in.

 

rotating the belt tensioner - Help

Any suggestions on rotating this tensioner while the engine is in the car? I have a flat socket tool but I can't get much more thn a 1/4 turn without hitting hoses or metal. Is there a trick...like do it from underneath? Trying to work on one in a parking garage and and no matter what faces I make I can't get the belt to slip on. Any help appreciated.

 

my friend has a long belt tool (snap-on I think) and we do it from the top. I did it once on a zx2 from the bottom I think with a regular ratchet, but that was a few years ago.
