i have a 94 1.9 lx and my friend and i our going to turn it into a drag car... we have already gutted it to where it is 2 seats a dash and a shifter... we were thinking about putting either a i4 dohc engine a small v6 with a turbo or 2... we know it is going to b a lot of work... i was just wondering what everyone thinks about that... and what type of engines we should try

Your two best drop in options would probably be the BP-T i4 or the KLZE V6. Those are the most powerfull drop-in engines for that car. The only problem is the transmissions, they are the same internally and you start to break stuff when you get around 300HP. There is a guy on this board that runs 12's with a modded BP-T, his last tranny lasted 1500 miles. However, any engine/trans combination is possible if you are going for a purpose built drag car.

With the Escort you can go easy or hard. Easy involves hunting for the best parts to fit in the stock location. This can involve digging through Hyundai, Mazda and Ford parts to find the best of each for a relatively stock Escort.
I'd like to see someone build like a Jr. Fuel Dragster with an Escort drive line, turbocharged and running on Alcohol.
The look on the Tech Inspector's face while he tried to figure which class to put you in would be priceless.

well to get started why not try a zetec swap an go boost ... teamzx2 an focusfanatics.com are good places to find some aftermarket for them an how to set them up easily i'd use a spi 5spd over the zx2 trans . other than that . thats it for FWD ... Rwd custom ... go nuts

class should be dictated by time and class restrictions. scene Jr drag is "5hp single cylinder" its out. so it would run in the class its times produced.

Used to be Jr. Dragster was a class for under 400 Cu. In.
Naturally Aspirated on alcohol or 110 or less octane racing fuel.
Had weight breaks for carbs, injectors and engine size.
Is that what they call Top Alcohol Dragster now?
