Anyone got the pn for the dome light, ie the interior bulb or overhead light?
Manual just says 12V 10w. Huh?
Piece of crap made in china junk.
Only driven the car like 10 k miles since I got it,
and replaced that bulb twice! They only seem to last
about 3 months or so before failing which is like driving once a week 3 months.
Crap ass bulbs. Oh lord please take us back to the days when we could buy USA made goods, including the bulbs.

My 2002 Benz has 235K miles and I've NEVER replaced the dome lights.

So, looking for a better solution, either higher quality (last ones were Sylvania from
O Riely) Philips? Always had good luck with Philips, or
    maybe LED?

I just threw a package of those away. I'll check the number on it tomorrow unless someone gets to it first.

Part number depends on your model year and whether you have the plain dome light or the fancier one with map lights.

After reading your post, I decided to try the Sylvania ZEVO LED bulb for my dome light, which was sort of yellow and not too bright.

The online catalog said I needed a 748 bulb, normally $9.99 at Advance Auto, but with a 30% off online coupon it was more reasonable.

The (non-map) dome cover is a pain to pry off (from the front), and the bulb is a pain to remove (Toshiba bulbs had wire poking out the pointed ends). The metal cap on one end of this "Festoon" bulb was coming loose from the heat.

The 748 turned out to be too large. I needed the DE3175 bulb, same price.

Also a bit of a pain to install (I dropped it once), but the result is decent. The LED uses only 1 watt, not 10W. The old bulb put out 120 lumens @ 2800K. Th new bulb puts out 80 lumens @ 6000K. Dimmer but much whiter. I perceive it as being brighter overall.

It also helps to clean the inside of the dome light cover with a damp cloth or paper. To install the cover, hook it on the front end and snap it on the back end.

I've had a blue LED in mine since the beginning of the year and no problems. The light it puts of is great!

Old thread but my #1 pet peeve about this car! I drive it couple thou a year, and I've been through about 10 of these bulbs!
So, back to the beginning. WTF is a 12V/10W bulb?
I ordered some nice Philips bulbs from Rockauto for like 60c for 2 but sheeet. They are too big!
EDIT:I looked what I bought, they are the 578LL (Long life) supposedly for my car....not.
They have the PHILIPS DE3175LL Longer Life for 82c for 2. Wow, you pay like 5 bucks for 2 at Orippoff.
I guess that's what I want? They also have the PHILIPS DE3175WLED Ultinon LED; White for $5

I don't want to waste any more money on the crap sold at Oriely etc.
So whats the correct part #? I Shoulda written it down. :arghh:

I had an LED in my old sedan and it started to go bad, so I lost sections of the LED until it finally was just a single strip of LEDs and wasn't bright enough to do a dang thing.

I bought a $5-6 sylvania from O’ Reilly and it’s been a fantastic light to me and I bought it maybe 4 years ago and it still shines bright. I just took my old bulb in to make sure I bought the correct new one. That stinks your bulb literally crapped out on you. :/
