I think they needed the dash light spot for the air bag light.

yes, 91-93 had the low fuel light, 94-96 do not. Jeff is correct, it is due to the addition of the air bag light.

Interesting...I have NEVER seen the low fuel light ON in an Escort.

Guess I just don't push my luck that far...

Yup, my '91 has one that turns on at about a 1/4 tank, I used the low fuel light to recalibrate my fuel gauge after dash light color change. I have a spot for a "hatch open" light...Does anyone else's work? I have considered making it work, but never really cared. I have eliminated the seat belt light because of bad seat belt track motors; got tired of seeing it.

I had thought that the hatch light only worked on the wagons... never really looked into it further. I know that the hatch light on my old 93 wagon worked.

Ah, makes sense. In theory, it shouldn't be too hard to get to work. When I redo my interior, I might have to give it a shot!

Did it not have it, or did it not work? A faulty sender or burnt bulb could make it not work. I am just curious.

On my old 95 wagon, the light would only work if it were barely popped open, and not opened fully. Turned out to be a pinched wire in the loom where it goes from the body to the hatch. I soldered it... or just crimped it, and it worked perfect afterwards!

I have pics of the 2 different clusters with all of the lights illuminated. I thought I had posted it up already, but perhaps I didn't. I'll upload them and post them if I can find them.

Where is the "low gas" light?

Me 1993 Escort LX SW 5spd; where is the low gas light? I've been on fumes MANY times, ha, and never saw it.... I know, lamp might be burned out, but where should I look; left? center? right? near batt light?

Hmmmm, never noticed the "hatch" light; I must close it too well, will try it for educational purposes.

    thx,

    LarryR : )

On my '91 120 MPH w/ tach cluster, the "low fuel" light is located just left of the "check engine" light. I only noticed the "hatch open" light because I have had the cluster apart several times. It is all the way to the right on mine.

We have been referring to the "low fuel" light and looks like a fuel pump. Yes there is a "fuel cutout" light as well.
