ok, I have just installed a sub in the trunk.
Now a few of my friends, who are by no means audio experts, are insisting that having my sub have the back seats as opposed to out into the trunk, will create better . . . . . they don't know, it's just better.
I think it's a bunch of shit being that bass travels equally in all directions.
Anyone have an opinion on the matter?

Neuman's right, facing them to the back is better. I don't even bother learning why, but it has something to do with the sound waves bouncing off the trunk. There's a graph showing how it's proven, but I'm lazy and won't find it for you.

I tried a lot of postions in my Escort GT, and rearward was the loudest. I designrd the box to face up in a direction parallel to the seatback, but it was very quiet unless I opened the hatch. The sound had been hitting the rear glass and was getting cancelled.

practice times 10 years of installed as a side job. you may get louder forward but it will sound like ass. if your going strictly for db then ass is what you want.

    trunk.
I turned mine around and people were right, it is louder, but it sounded horrible. back towards the trunk, my bass is much smoother, giving me that additional bottom end, not an over powering rattle.

    LOL K-SLICE

As for my experince (I am no expert) I like towards the liscence plate/trunk ( I have installed speakers in wagons , hatch backs and sedans)
You get a clearer pitch range and no "back massage" for the rear seats ( Most of my cars as a late teen where used as cabs for hire)

I have my 12's aimed back. I didn't think there was any other way. It seems to make it so everyone inside and outside my car can hear the music better.

Well I turned my subs around (originally had them facing the front of the car). I've got two 12" woofers, and I thought it sounded pretty mean and amazing when I had it facing the front.

I turned it around yesterday and I can tell a difference. The difference that I can tell is that I don't get much 'thump' anymore. I can really only feel it now if it's at lower frequency.

I must admit though, it sounds much cleaner and I can still hear it pretty well. The only problem that I've got is that the hatch rattles pretty horribly. I threw some foam padding (for bedding) underneath the box and in my rear quarter panels. Sounds pretty good, I just need to fix the hatch rattle. Any ideas on how to cure it?

As for what i run, nothing much, 1 resonant engineering MT 12 dual .7, 1 American Bass VFL 500.1, 10 runs of 1/0 power and ground, 1 NSB 75 battery, Kenwood x891 headunit. Naw i dont have anything good in my car at all, its all junk. And theres no way in hell i can break 150 in my trunk neon!! Oh wait, i already did that.

so mike and i chatted lastnite. he informed me of you stats. for what ever reason (im going to blame "opera" internet explorer) when i click your link all i get is a pic of your car and all the tabs are blank.

sounds like and looks like you got it going on. im not going to say its not possible. an old friend of mine that i did the system in his GSR 4dr his 147 off one L7 15 facing rear. optima yellow top, 2ga power an ground, batcap400, fosgate 360.2 <-- last of the good stuff (2000). now this part i didn't tell 4door lastnite. the guy is not a liar but if he hit 146.6 he would claim the 147. but his was off an audio control mic at a small comp. no one around here runs termlab. until about a year ago when 4door was skeeting over audio i hadn't heard of them.

i have never been big in comp's, carshows or drag racing. i do a few of each from time to time. but i prefer enjoying my car on the road more then sitting parked.

coo, i also enjoy my music while i drive, my box peaks at 46 hz so its still not overly high and it gets low enough to enjoy on a daily basis. I dont EVER listen to it that loud tho, it would be just stupid lol. The audiocontrol, depending on the model, isnt that bad, the 190 is only about 1-2 db higher than termlab depending on the vehicle, now the OLD stick mic ac is really bad, almost 10 db higher than termlab.
