Ive been working with Paul Boothe this weekend and he has finally come through for us in the way of .DEF tuneing files for the 3rd gen EEC-V ECU. He has files uploaded at www.moates.net for purchase now and will be working on the zetec and Focus box codes this upcomeing week.

He did make a request - I need a .bin from a Tracer for box codes ending in 0, ie JJJ0, NNN0, etc... if anyone has 1 of these .bins, please email it to me at [email protected] so I can submit it to Paul.

ALL 3rd gen Escort box codes are now supported -

all box codes in progress can be found here:

http://www.feoa.net/modules.php?name=Fo ... &start=135

These .DEFs will work with Pauls EEC Editor, as well as TunerPro and a few others.

Please go to www.moates.net and look at the newest chip setup.. the Ford QuarterHorse - real time emulation/on-the-fly seemless tuneing, J3 connection on a USB cable, NO OBD connection

explain all this to a retard, what will a person all need here?

I have the laptop, where do you go from there?
a laptop, an editor software-be it EEC editor, TunerPro, etc - , a j3 chip setup, this is an ecu addition that holds and changes the bin file through the help of the .DEF file that Paul is creating.... you will need a burner, moates carries several types.. this links inbetween the j3 chip and the laptop.

www.moates.net ---- the QuarterHorse Ford setup is on the main page - it is the simpelest, easiest and newest type of setup to run on EEC-IV and EEC-V. It explains in detail what you will need to do to run the QH.

----

take EEC Editor as an example - load it to your laptop, load the .DEF in aswell - now we have tables we can see and change... install the QH in to the j3 - add the burner - link laptop to burner and voila.... tuneing made easy.

just request GVAKA.DEF under the drop down box on the moates site,
called NEW DEF. Its not listed, but just add it in the notes
when checking out.

Disappointing ... still makes no sense and I have no idea what is or is not included in that file or if it is useful. I don't find any drop down box either and the search returns nothing. Additionally, I don't think a .def will work with Tuner Pro so more SW to buy on top of that.

I sent a PM as requested and no reply.

These are the currently available params available for GVAKA.DEF and GVAKB.DEF These params are not exportable. What do you mean more software required?

Looks like a lot of information but I am not familiar with most of the terms and I don't see how this def sets the load information like Load v. RPM. I am using the .dxf that Derek did for the EEC-IV with Tuner Pro. Will this def work in TunerPro? I am also using a 2.0L SPI engine.

Can the .dxf for the 1.9 be expanded on or a DEF made for it with more information other than transmission stuff? The issue most seem to have is warm engine starting and idle.

I tried your EEC Editor but could not get the hang of it. Perhaps I need the full version or a different version??

MATT was going to send me the def's so I could look at them but we never connected. I was going to swap my harness and run the EEC-V if I can gain the ability to tune with it because I can data log it with the LM-2.

Rex - first, please dont piss off Paul, he does this as more of a hobby and not his day job.

There is a tutorial IIRC for EEC Editor - read it first and the software becomes a bit easier to use.

your .dfx file CAN NOT be used in EEC Editor - just DEF

the DEF is easy to purchase, pull down menu on EEC Editor page - new def, then type in the DEF as previously stated in the "notes" under purchase.

now, a question Rex - what j3 adapter are you useing? If your not 100% sure that you can tune useing EEC Editor, dont, as it is possible to do more harm then good to the motor if its setup wrong.

for those that want to run the Editor, get a j3 adapter like Ford QuarterHorse as previously stated above, laptop, DL EEC Editor and purchase the DEF file. Make sure to also DL the updates for EEC Editor. And read the tutorial for the QH setup - its very easy to follow, it fully explains how to install, DL the editor, and how to start tuneing.

Sorry for wasting my time and yours. I won't make that mistake twice.
Have a nice day.
Well I guess I am sorry too but I certainly did not say, or imply, anything out of line. Not sure what your problem is; however, I will just bow out so that Matt does not get shorted.

Matt - Right ... I have said noting to "piss off Paul" but he seems a little touchy based on his post. Hopefully he wasn't mislead. I'm not looking for an argument so I'll leave it there and stick with what I have.

I am quite familiar with tuning and have been at it for awhile but thanks for the tip. I'm using a Burn1 and the J3 chip on the EEC-IV. The problem is that without a better definition (than the one I'm using) it is difficult to fix things like lean deceleration backfire and idle problems after returning from OL.

I am still fairly new to this type of tuning, but I am one of 'eec_editor''s (Paul Booth -- hacker/entrepreneur) most recent happy customers.

(I'm using a Moates.net Quarterhorse, in combination with Mr. Booth's free EEC Editor Software, and a 'def file' purchased from Mr. Booth specific to my application... to manipulate the EEC-5 [Strategy: GAPQ0/ Box-Code: BXC2] in my 1996 Escort LX Wagon [automatic/1.9L SEFI]. I've been up and running only a couple days and I'm still very early on the learning curve, but having fun and already running better.)

I have found interacting w/ Paul occasionally frustrating. He is very comfortable with technical jargon but doesn't seem to understand how far that may be from understandable to someone coming to ecu-hacking from outside a software/IT background. He is frequently terse to the point of rudeness and almost uniformly condescending when replying to my inquiries. In general, I don't think customer service comes easily to him. I've been there, myself, (thinking to myself... 'why do I have to wear a tie to this presentation? Can't they see I've created the perfect solution to their problem?') and so I tried to be patient because, in the end... I WANT THAT PRODUCT!

NOW -- LET ME SHOW YOU THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN -- Paul and I will probably never be buddies, but I WILL DO MORE BUSINESS WITH HIM in the future AND RECOMMEND HIS PRODUCTS/SERVICES to others because, he is very fairly priced, he has been in my experience forthright in his business interactions, he delivers on time or earlier, and LAST AND MOST CERTAINLY NOT LEAST --> His products (when coupled with the nicely designed, fully-featured, fairly-priced hardware from Craig Moates @ moates.net) ARE VERY NEARLY UNIQUE in their ability to return ALL THE TUNING POWER to the end user (me!) rather than simply transferring it from the manufacturer to a third party!

I was going to give you the upside/downside of my interactions w/ Mr. Booth... AND THEN give you a good, in-depth, end-user-understandable answer to the question about what an 'EEC-Editor def file' can do for you.... UNFORTUNATELY, I must type slow, cause I've got to shower and leave for work. (Truthfully, I'm also leaving myself a few minutes just before I roll out of the driveway to tweak my WOT- shift-points and the 4th-gear rev-limiter, via the new usb port on my dash! HOW COOL IS THAT? Thank you, Mr. Booth!)
