Hi Everyone. I just joined. I have a 97 Ford Escort that is dead right there. It had a heater core leak. After disconnecting it, the leak had got some wires wet and the wiring harness under the dash fried. Now I have found that harness is over $2,000.00. So not fixing it. Problem is my nephew was working on it and had the dash out and then he passed away. Now there she sets and no one to fix her. What do you think I should do? Part her out? Sell her to a junk yard? List her on here? Sell her on Ebay or craigslist. Any suggestions? I am 56 year old woman and not sure what I should do. Thanks Becky

A couple of things to try:
Put it on ebay as a 'parts car', and have a reserve price high enough to make you really happy if someone bids up that much. If they dont - you will have gotten the best low-priced publicity there is. All the interested bidders can email you to learn what you really want for it.
Second, by all means put it on craigslist.org.
Thirdly, list it here, and at other Escort forums having 'for sale' sections.
If you go to part it out, you would be able to get more money, but.... someone would have to dismantle things (some valuable items take a lot of work to get to), and then you have the recurring problem of shipping stuff. It would also take longer to get your money's worth. This is only a feasbile alternative if the car is sitting somewhere that it wont be the cause of complaints from neighbors, or violate some local zoning ordinance by being 'dead'.
If youi let people come by and pull parts from the car themselves, be prepared for a lot of damage to whatever they dont want - but is in their way.

Wow Thanks. you have given me a lot to think about. I think I will sell what has been taken off of the vehicle. Such as the seats, dash and such. Then I might list the entire car on ebay. My onoly concern is shipping. I ship stuff thru the post office and also with Forward Air. Are there any other ways to ship big items. THanks

Ok sorry about that. I am in Oklahoma near the city. North of it. Yes, the heater core leaked on the wiring and it burned out the end of a wiring harness. I bought the part that also burned already to the tune of $180.00. When I tried to get it fixed the dealer said $2,000.00 for the harness. I am unable to go to Pull Apart and find another one. I would love to fix the car as I love it but I am not able as I am a woman and not mechanically inclined. The only other thing wrong is it has a dent in the driver side rear quarter panel. Interior is nice and so is the exterioir. If any one knows where I can get the wiring harness then I might get some one to put it back together. So now its either fix it or sell it for junk. Any one got any ideas.

I bet somebody on here might have an extra harness laying around. You could also try ebay. There are also junkyards that will pull parts for you, it will cost more than pulling them yourself but it will be far less than $2000. If it only burned out an end of the harness then it might be possible to just splice on another connector.

I too would look into the possibility of splicing in another connector to your existing harness. Just find a donor car at a JY cut the connector off leaving plenty of wiring on it to make the splices and it should be pretty easily repaired without breaking the bank. The connections could be make easily and safely with butt connectors or scotch lock connectors. The worst part about your idea of going ahead and selling the parts that are already off the car such as seats, dash etc. is that if someone came along that wanted to buy the car to repair they are not going to give you much with missing parts that they would have to locate and replace.
