427 Cammer. Also known as the 427 SOHC (Single Over head Cam) engine. THE only engine to ever be outlawed by NASCAR because of it's unfair advantage. They made these for over the counter in 1965, 66 and '67 because they couldn't race them in NASCAR they never put them in cars. I brought it to my house on Sat and my poor old 4x4 ranger was hurting a bit because of the weight.

Ford's 427 SOHC were rated a 616 horsepower @ 7000 and 515 ft/lbs @ 3800.

I believe that was the one 4 barrell version. I'm pretty sure the 2 x 4 barrel version was 650 or so. This engine is the 2 4V. The extra carb added 50 HP. You could be right about the torque, I always thought they were 50 less on the torque than HP.

True that is for the single 4 barrel engine. The 2X4 barrel engine produced 657 horsepower @ 7500 rpm and 575 ft/lbs @ 4200 rpm.

I got to see this bad boy in person yesterday. Randy pulled the valve cover off one side, so I could check things out. This engine is VERY impressive. Can't wait to hear it run!
