Well, I´m in high heaven, why? Ever since I took off my air silencer and air tube out from under the intake box, I´ve been gettin better mileage.

At first I thought it was just luck, two weeks ago I got 21.2 mpg. I was like sweet. Last week I got 21.1 mpg. Today I got 21.008 mpg. That´s three consecutive 21 mpg tanks in a row. I should have taken that damn silencer and intake tube off earlier. I used to get between 15 and 19 mpg. Thanks Brian for helpin me take off that air silencer box and thanks me for taking that stupid tube off when I replaced my starter.

If you haven´t done this mod yet, I suggest doing it. It makes the car sound awesome and it´s giving me better mileage. :-] :-]

sorry to burst your bubble dude, but 21mpg is shitty in a Scort I could get 21-23 in my Mustang and it was carburated and had twice the engine as a Scort. Anything less than 26 is pretty poor. My Scort gets over 30 and its 14 years old. Wow that reminds me my Mustang turn 20 this year. Woo hoo....

can someone post a how to on this?

all the how to would say is unscrew the intake housing from the body(intake hose can stay on), and pull of the silencer tubing. it´s the simplest mod out there. 3 screws on the housing part, and i think just one held the silencer tubing to the frame. i can´t fully remember, i did this half a year ago

Yeah there´s two bolts holding the silencer tube onto the top of the radiator, then the tube going into the bottom of the air intake will pull right out.
as for the under intake tube, take the two bolts and one nut out that holds the airbox onto the car, and pull it out...it could be a pain in the ass...then there´s I think only the one bolt that holds this little black tube to the frame of the car. pull it out and replace the air box. You might need to plug the silencer tube hole with something to keep it from sucking in hot air. but either way, damn it screams now. and 3 consecutive fill ups at 21 mpg vs. 15-19 mpg before this simple 10-20 minute mod. I´ve heard it adds about 2-5 lb ft torque, (didn´t care about it much though) and removes about 2 lbs of weight :-]
