I searched and couldn't find anyone else with this problem. While my car's at idle the crank pulley wobbles around and maks a noise. My old serp belt broke while I was driving it earlier this summer and I managed to get it home w/o power steering and replac the belt. I havn't driven the car much sence then and just noticed this problem today because of the noise.
Any idea what this could be and what I can do to fix it?

The rubber insulator is worn out. Pick up another one at a salvage yard before it flies apart.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what rubber insulator? I took the belt off and impacted the pulley off and didn't see anything like that.. Just the pulley, a big thick washer, and the bolt.

The rubber insulator is a thin piece sandwiched between the two halves that comprise the pulley. There's the actual pulley center, then the insulator, then the belt drive part. It's hard to spot without scrutinizing some. Also, did you try re-seating, and properly torquing (ie not using an impact) to see if it still wobbles? I've seen them run true when re-torqued after being wobbly for a while.

OK, I did see that rubber piece in there. Guess I'll have to pull it apart again and check that out. I checked the tightness with a torque wrench, and it's at leat tightened to specs if not tighter. The key looked OK and I lines it up wih the slot on the pulley before putting it all back together.

My car had a wobbly pulley when I got it. It made a horrible noise in the cold. You can't fix it, just get a new one.

I woul but the price on those from escortfocus is CRAZY! I got the UDP for my Firebird for $20 and my stock pulley. It was worth it on my firebird, big diff, but $119 is pretty steep, what kinda gains do you get from them on a little 4 banger?

Couldn't say for sure, I made too many changes at the same time. But when you are starting with less than 100HP, any change is noticeable percentage-wise.

I would say the biggest change is how the car preforms with the A/C on, but that changes alone is worth it. A stock replacement is about half the price of the underdrive but it still has that rubber piece in it which can fail again. My replacement started to wobble after about 1.5 years. The underdrive won't ever start to wobble because it is one piece. I won't deny that the UDP is overpriced but you are kind of stuck with paying that price unfortunately. What you do is your choice.
