That sucks. Knowing the story I'd have to say the kid was an idiot but I never like to see that and it's never a good thing.

Sorry it happened, but the kid was just plain dumb.

I'm sorry any kid who has a brand new cosworth handed to them and then go out and wrap it around a tree is truely an idiot. especially since he was showing off to his friend who didn't make it either.

I'd like a wagon, but an lx would be ok as well. I just want a 1.9 to drive. cheap, affordable, etc. Know of any? none of the lx's for sale up here are in decent shape.

Actually, he only wrapped the back around the tree. Jesus. I haven't seen a car break in half like that before. There was a passenger who died? What is the story, for those of us who don't know?

He actually wrapped the car around the tree and the front half split away from the car. The story is this kid got this Cossie for his graduation present from his parents and 2 days later he was showing off to his friend in an English backcountry at 120 mph and lost it. So both him and his friend were killed in the crash.

I have seen a Mustang GT split into 3 pieces after it nailed a car driven by two college students while illegally street racing in california.

not to nit pick...but there are a couple of funny things about this "Cosworth"...I'm not saying for sure it is not...but someone went through a bit of trouble to make it not look like one before wrapping it around a tree...first no bonnet vents, wrong front bumper, no rear diff that I can find in the pic...plus the fuel tank looks to be the kin for a front drive model...wrong interior trim when compared to the MKV model Cossies I have seen in person and in most mags where they have a factory trim....those are a few things I noticed right off....maybe Foxy can tell us for sure...but that's my opinion...

... and no driveshaft. That little black spoiler is hardly like the cossie wing. The exhaust is a little puny for a turboed motor. The trim that can be seen on the driver side fender wouldn't be found on a cossie's flared fender. In the pic of the dash you can see the fender isn't the flared variety. Oh, and it looks like an automatic. I just noticed that it's a left-hand drive, did our pleasant guest say where this happened?

It doesn't take a turbocharged monster to go too fast on a narrow lane.. it just takes a lot of bad luck to lose it and hit the only tree in the pasture while going too fast.

:? I'm not sure that I can ever tell anything for sure!! I'm also very suspicious about this whole scenario. As to the interior of this 'Cosworth,' it is identical in every way, other than LHD, to my '92 MkV Ghia (Ghia = Posh). If genuine, it was obviously a 'freak' accident. Where is all the broken glass, blood on the dash/seats etc., and where are all the ploughed up skid marks, I only see a few ruts in the grass and would expect there to have been more. Why have the emergency services allowed all those people to tramp about willy nilly all over the evidence. Surely if the police were not interested, the insurance company would certainly have wished to investigate ALL the circumstances. In all other such incidences I have seen (not many thank heavens) the scene has been 'taped off.' If it was the 'real deal' the tree came off best?? :?

Certainly seems suspicious. That's not a very big tree. And to have survived a 120 mph hit...I dunno, you'd think the tree would be 2x4's by now. Yet it's pretty much intact.

I also noticed the lack of Cossie vents and differential. That raised my BS meter immediately.

Okay, I took another look at the thing. The standard Cossie has a straight through muffler with a tailpipe sticking out STRAIGHT. The one in the photo is curved down, much like the garden variety Escort. But the wheels are Cosworth or a good knock-off. I think we're looking at a kitted-up car, not the real deal. Regardless though, somebody's car is seriously fooked.

Yeah, that tree seems a little small to have ripped a a car in half. Maybe if it was an oblique hit, the back of the car could have grabbed the tree like that. It must have been oblique, because a straight on hit would have knocked the tree down. I'll bet there's no gore on the interior because the people flew out right after the car came apart.

I still find it hard to believe - Would people really take a car to, allegedly, 120mph and NOT wear seat belts/harness?? Where is the broken glass, small bits of debris and churned up grass? Not at all convinced it was even a MkV Cossie - no extra dials on dash - as I said before, the interior is exactly the same as my MkV Ghia. :?
