I hate the automatic seat belts on my 96 escort. I was wondering if I can convert them to manual seat belts?

The easiest way to disable the motor is to disconnect the wire under the round cap at the bottom of the B pillar interior trim. After that just push the latch into proper position and presto manual belts. I dunno why you would want manual ones unless the powered ones failed.

The Canadian Escorts had manual belts. If you can find somebody up there to send you the parts a conversion is easy.

Grab that stuff right now!!! I am pretty sure it's a bolt in mod. I think you need to grab the trim as well.

the auto seatbelts on these cars are true crap.i hate mine with a passion.this is the second escort i`ve owned and the drive belts inside the door shredded on both.the garage i bought my current `scort specializes in 2nd gens. and they said these belts have always presented with problems due to poor design.i agree.if the tiny little plastic housing that the belt actually clips to up top breaks,there`s nothing but the airbag between you and poosible death.wtf?!! i am very interested in this swap and plan to do it when i can find the parts and get the cash!

Where I live is dry and dusty. These conditions just tear up the cable mechanism. Yeah, if anybody knows where a guy could track down a source for the cdm stuff, everybody who rides in my car would think it was money well spent.
