Checked transmission fluid yesterday (both in my driveway and at a local shop--regards a different problem I've been having) and right after this, I got a check engine light with two codes...P1506/P1504...."detected engine speed greater than desired" and "has detected an electrical load failure on the IAC circuit. Probable causes include failed IAC, Engine Vacuum Leak, Open or shorted circuit.

I removed and cleaned the IAC about a month ago and the code (I unplugged it while engine was running to check for changes) cleared a couple days later after reinstallation. But now, I've got codes I didn't induce. IAC is currently soaking in cleaner....can't find, locally, a vacuum gauge w/pump, and don't know how to test the circuits. I've got a circuit tester pen but I've never used it before. What do I test, where do I test, and how do I test?? I have a 99 Ford Escort 2.0 SOHC.

Soaked IAC overnight in carb cleaner, reinstalled it, and this morning (about three days later) the "check engine light" disappeared.
