is there a code reader for mazda motors cause i was looking for a long time to get one for my 91 escort gt.
if they do have one would anyone know
if it would still read codes if it was a j-spec motor???
thanks ryan
You can use a ford one that you can get a Wal-Mart for like $15 or something, or you can use the cars internal diagnostic checker by jumping the ten terminal to ground terminal and read the codes from your check engine light. You can get the codes and more info from a Chilton or Haynes Manual for you car.
you can read the codes without a "toy". I´ll have to find the old tech article but you use a paperclip to jump the #10 and the ground pins on the diagnostic terminal under the hood on the drivers side on the firewall. then turn your key to on and it will flash the codes. I´ll have to find them and post back for you.
Remember it´s not the engine that matters, it´s the ECU. You could use an EEC-IV Ecu with a small block chevy, but you would still need the code reader for the EEC-IV.
