Hello. All of the sudden my ´95 LX won´t start. It has to be electrical because the engine won´t even turn over. The battery is new and all accessories do work. It´s just as if I was trying to start it without engaging the clutch (you know, like you have to do normally), but I am. Is there a switch located somewhere that goes bad eventually? Thanks!

CSS- clutch safety switch. Not an uncommon problem for them to crap out.
NSS-neutral safety switch. For poeple like me with automatics. Just incase we´re not smart enough to start it from park or neutral.

I would imagine that if you just take a look underneath where the pedals are, that´s where it´ll be. When I look down there, I can see my tailight switch. I woull think it would look almost identical except that it´s on the clutch pedal.

Hope that helps.

Matt

it´s a white button, about 1cm long or so, slightly thinner than a pencil. run your finger bottom to top along the left side of the clutch and you´ll hit a metal tab. this tab holds a rubber pad which pushes this safety switch. it might be that the rubber pad has come off (mine did, i just made a new one though), or maybe the metal tab is bent and doesn´t reach the switch, just a couple things to check as well. you can reach down and push the button in yourself and turn the key and it´ll start, if the switch is still working; just make sure you´re in neutral :-] good luck!

Thought I´d update the problem. I think it was the after market alarm that was installed before I bought the car. That alarm´s been nothing but trouble. :-l

Thanks for your replies!
