hello, i drive a 95 ford escort lx 1.9 litre manual tranmission. there is a clicking sound coming from the front passenger side of the motor when the car is idling. my mechanic says it is coming from the transmission. could anyone shed some light on this so when i go to talk to him about it i have some idea of what it is.

Thanks,
Andrew Pinkham

The tranny is on the driver's side - so he's wrong.

Is it most noticeable when you have just started the engine from cold? If so, it is almost certainly lifter tick.

Please note that your fuel injectors naturally make a clicking sound.
