We picked this up as a daily/project for my girlfriend, she may or may not post periodically on this project.

Anyways, it was a red EGT advertised as 58k miles. Not true. It's got at least 158k (160k today), possibly 260k. Not real sure. Runs like a raped ape though. Purchased for $700.

Had a new clutch when we picked it up. Since then, here's a list of all that's been done:

1) New transmission
2) new rear brakes
3) Energy Suspension motor mount inserts
4) new front motor mount
5) New lower tranny mount
6) new shifter bushings (ready to be replaced again)
7) new suspension (tokico blues + eibachs)
8) new inner door panels
9) shifter shaft seal
10) new battery
11) air intake hose

That was "deferred maintainence."

Since that, the "modifications."

1) Redded out tails
2) MX3 glovebox/ passenger lower dash
3) Protege lower center console
4) MX3 arm rest console thingy
5) MX3 inner kick panels
6) MX3 weather stripping
7) MX3 black carpet (to be installed)
8) MX3 passenger side under dash cover thingy covers blower motor

Basic stereo setup. Shallow mount Kickers up front, nothing in back, decent Kenwood HU to be installed w/ Kenwood amp. No sub for the moment.

Here's a buttload of pictures:

You're going to like all the black interior parts. Are you going to paint the Protege console black to match?

Uhm, the car doesn't have airbags. I have not a clue what the box is that is where the Protege console should be. I wonder if that was a factory amplifier... does the car have "Premium Audio" badging? Judging by the heatsink on the side of the box, it looks like an amplifier.

I like the black piping on the GT seats... I don't think I've ever seen it before. I've seen red and purple and green, but not black.

Did you get my reply in the other thread regarding what you have to trim to make the Protege console fit?

Oh yeah, and last I checked, the MX-3 door sill trim doesn't fit in the Escort... but maybe I'm wrong. Did you get it to fit? Mine came from a 323, since it shares the same screw holes with the Escort.

Yes, we're going to paint the Protege console, and finish getting all the other black parts we can. Driver's side lower dash, seat belt floor thingies, black seat belts, protege door sills, etc....

Yes, the original door panels had "premium Audio" badging. I had to swap the door panels, though, because they were so shot. Which sucks, because they had the black piping as well. Come to think of it, i haven't seen another one with the black piping yet in any of the junkyards that i've been to.

I did get your reply. I may be able to get to finishing it up tomorrow. I updated that thread with another question, too. :)

Thanks!

Oh, and because it would fit in this thread better.... I have a new pair of fog lights for the car. But for the life of me, i can't figure out how to install them. I think my original brackets may be broken, but i'm not positive.

Anyone have any pics of the fog light replacement/install/etc?

Lookin good man. I just swapped a black carpet into the blue car the other week. I'm sure you will like the look, especially with all of the black parts.

Cool, yeah you may have to just relocate that amp out of the way... or just unhook and remove it if it's not in use.

Nope, it's not in use. Well... it is at this exact instant, but it won't be. I'm installing her old Kenwood out of her Taurus with a decent old school Kenwood 4-channel amp tomorrow. Should be a nice simple setup that sounds good without the mess or "hey steal me!!!" of a sub.

And yes, the MX3 sills will physically fit, but they aren't really long enough, and look strange. I had the option of either leaving the MX3 weather stripping long (it's about 6" longer than the Escort stuff) and installed the MX3 sills, but that looked a bit strange, so i cut down the MX3 weather stripping and put the Escort sills back on for the time being. Going to try to find the black ones that fit, or i may just paint the Escort ones. But i'm going to try to go your route, and only paint what i absolutely have to.

Thanks, we're excited about it.... the stock carpet is disgusting in this thing. And... it's grey. Not even a cool grey. It's light grey. I didn't mind the grey in the Celica, but this is stupid looking.

alright, so we've recently ordered some new stuff:

- a pair of new headlights and clear corners (should be here this week).
- a radiator because ours was leaking some coolant (should get here tomorrow).
- and ordered some megan racing springs today.

at the end of the month/start of August, we're planning on picking up front and rear mx3 seats.

and we're hoping to get the carpet and other stuff we've picked up at the junkyard over the past couple weeks installed on Thursday.

pictures will be posted once the install begins. :)

^The GF.

Forgot to post up an aside earlier:

The RallyScort lives on in this car, too. Those wheels in the pictures are off that car, as well as the 3 piece wing that needs to be installed. :D

Looks good man, you should use some rubbing compund on that hood and get rid of that peel.
It's really the whole car.... about 33% of the clearcoat is gone, and the rest is peeling off at a rapid rate. She wants the paint and body work done anyways, so it'll look good in the end.

I'll see if she can post the install pics of the new headlights today before work. :)

Oh, and i have a question for anyone that may be able to answer: The rear speakers, the genius that had it before, just cut the wires. The driver's side has a red wire, and a white wire with a stripe. The passenger has a blue wire, and a white wire with a stripe. Which is power, and which is ground?

^Hahaha, i haven't put my voltmeter up to it, but i did touch the wires in both possibly configuration to the speakers, and got nothing.

I'll have to dig into it further this weekend.

we installed the new headlights on Wednesday.

and then installed the clear corners yesterday when they arrived.

the headlights alone made a big difference in the look of the car, and the clear corners are just an added bonus. :)

yeah, love the look of them cars with new headlights and clear corners

the striped wire is the negative. if when you put the wires to the speakers nothing happens, you might have a burnt out speaker or wire. if the speakers are good then try cutting about 3 inches off the wires and touching the speakers again. atleast thats what i do every time i ground out the wiring while installing new speakers. works every time for me.

^Yeah i figured out which was negative. The speakers are in fine shape. I'll strip more wire off and see where that gets us.

I may just run it directly off the amp rather than splicing the existing old crappy wire to the amp. Bigger pain, but that way i can at least get some decent speaker wire in there.

New headlights look way better. That's high on my list of things I need to buy for my car too.

Thanks man. :)

I need to do more work to the center section... it's still a bit orange-y. I think another coat of red and maybe a light coat of black tint should match it well. I was surprised at how much it changed the look, myself.

Good thing the GF likes it. :p
