They don't exist. The 2nd gen escort ECU isn't a chippable ECU. Albeit, if you really wanted to, you could likely build a new chip and desolder/resolder in a chip, but there is nothing that actually exists for the escort under the industry standard definition of a chip.

Your best bet is to go with independent management if you want tuning gains.

Where in the hell are you getting this info? This is the second time I've seen you post this info. Only the 1.8 DOHC (Mazda) is'nt "chipable".
The LX's and other models with a Ford ECM have a slot on the side, you plug the chip into that socket.
I've used both Diablo and Superchip in my 96lx.

That can be chipped!!! after having a Superchip, it worked good, but I now have a Diablo chip.. wow, that is an awsome chip. It has 3 settings and you can get the 3rd setting custom tuned (to an engineers table, nothing beats a dyno tune w/ wideband) but anyway, it can be tuned to your mods.. it is the next best thing to a standalone.

no, 95 is OBD 1. you can use the ECU to run an SPI because the sensors are the same (less SPI controller) and no provision for 2nd O2 sensor.. but the ECU for the SPI it's self is OBD2 which did not come out until 96.

That is not a 'chip' that is a piggy back, and acts in much the same way as a programmable chip. But is not as accurate as a custom tunable chip.

as for the other question, the short answer is yes.. If you swap a 2.0L into you LX and use the 1.9 intake, exhaust and ECU... If you want to use the SPI intake, then you will have to use an OBD2 ECU.

After all was done (ordered chip, dyno tuned by diablo rep) I have $380.00 in mine.. Vs. about $250.00 shipped for the superchip... But gains were not only found in HP/TQ. I got better MPG on the "stock" tune setting running 87 octain. The superchip is much less but the only tune offered is a bench tune..

No. Even with in the same year, there are different ECU Code numbers, Auto/Manual, EGR/No EGR...ect. You need to get the code off of the ECU to know if it's a match to the chip you want to use. If it does'nt match you can have it reburned, for a fee.

Nope. The OBD1 1.9 computer can run the SPI, intake and all just fine. Just need to add the SPI controller.

The Chip is for the ECU, not the motor. It does'nt matter what motor you have as long as it's the right chip for the right ECU.

How does one go about "chipping" a car? Say I wanted a custom chip that would retard my timing and take advantage of my turbo setup? How do they "tune" your chips?

On this post someone stated 380 bucks for a diablo chip. How do they know what timing numbers to map to etc. I ideally would need to retard my timing based on manifold pressure? I don't know exactly by how much, I guess it's really a trial and error thing. So each time I had them program it and it needed further tweaking they would charge me again? That could cost a ton!

Anyone have experience with this and an turboed escort? The DIS-4 I installed isn't doing the job as I'm getting detonation under 4K (which is where it starts to retard timing).

Thanks!

The chip can be tuned a few ways.. A dyno tune or bench tune. The SPI runs a much more aggressive timing then any other ford I have turboed. Diablo is still fine tuning mine after 4 dyno pulls. I am having a similar problem with deto, but I am looking into another soultion to help the problem in combonation with the chip..

When I get all the research and parts.. I will post up details. no it is not the nitrous, but even this will require dyno time + the diablo reps time... a lot of $$ for 300 HP.

I had a TT 302 fox body that I could tune myself with the EEC tuner.. dang OBD 2....
