My 94 escort's check engine light keeps coming on periodically, I have checked it and it shows no codes. I have reset it by taking the battery cable off and holding down on the brake for 5 seconds. Anyone know how to solve this problem?

Kind of strange but not !

I see this all the time on big trucks. You need to do a complete check of
codes and see whats in memory. You may have to run the car by one of
the local parts stores so they can hook a code reader to it and pull all
codes.

In any case, OBD 1 only monitors a few sensors that would throw a code. You can check most of those with an ohm meter.

2 things most likely to have a code come up while driving the car and have it be gone after you turn the key off will be from the O2 sensor or
the MAF sensor.

In either csse, the performance of the engine will be affected while the check engine light is on.

SO, hows the car running in gereral ????

One other thing that might be a problem would be low voltage to the PCM.

Check all your engine grounds etc. and make sure all are clean and tight.

Make sure your alternator is charging good and the battery is in good shape.

Short of your actually discovering what code is present, you have some digging to do.

Sometimes not easy to find an intermittant !
