what exactly does this light mean, I think it means its near empty cause i just filled it up and it went away, did it maybe 3 times since i bought the car. I noticed it had ALOT of coolant on the (Front control arms?) nad it used to drip and spill of them, but i havent noticed it leaking anymore. no green in the snow :p there must be a REALLY small hole though because i have to fill up like 500 ml every 4 months :(

- oh yea whats it mean when thers icy particles in your reservoir lol, I think i seen it a little icy but i dont see how water could get in there.... i just had a new pump put in and its all new coolant...

- and if it says check coolant but the engine runs at about 1/4 - little below 1/2 way then it should be fine right?

The light is triggered only by low level in the coolant reservoir. The circuit is complete (light extinguished) when current flows through the coolant sensor due to the electrolytic potential in the coolant. When level drops below the electrodes, current flow stops (air is a poor conductor) and the light illuminates.

My sensor had an intermittent short (open-circuit) which drove me nuts, so I stole a sensor from the boneyard and all is still well.

You, my friend, have real problem. Losing coolant is as serious as losing engine oil. Sounds like you only have an external leak (lesser of two evils). Find it and knock it dead. First guess is a slow rad leak. Don't be complacent just because your dash indication indicates appropriate temperature. A small leak will eventually become a big leak.

Ice in the reservoir means you have a coolant solution that is much to weak in coolant (too much water). Mix it anywhere from 50-50 to 70-30 (coolant-demin water) and you'll be the king.

One more time - do not turn your back on this or it'll end up drop-kicking you right in the bag.

hey I didn't know the LX had a low coolant light.
Mine was a 93 GT whos light started to light up periodically soon after I got it. I put in some stop leak, figuring I'd be changing the rad soon. The light never came on again in the ensuing 4 1/2 years I had the car.

there was a small leak from the top of the rad in the summer, it only came out when the engine was turned on. I threw some gunk on it and it helped for a while but after i got the new waterpump in it, its leaking again i suppose.

- what is the make of that stuff you used to stop your leak, i might buy some.

alls it is is a dealy with 2 electrodes that conduct when water is touching them.. if the water is below it trips the light.. crazyness maybe you have

..dude if you have icy particles in your coolant which should be 50/50 water and etholene glycol(sp?) then your living in a place thats waaaayyy too cold for a car.

there are only a few ways coolant can leak..
1) bad head gasket
2) blown head gasket
3) leaky piping
4) leaky thermo housing
5) leaky radiator
6) totaly F!ed radiator cap.

I had a mystifying coolant leak with my LX. It turned out that the water pump was leaking out of the seal between itself and the block. Check there and the weep hole on the water pump as well. It is a lot closer to the control arm than the overflow tank is.
