Hi, I have a 1991 Escort GT. It has 74,000 miles on it, and the body is in mint condition. The engine seems pretty good, but I'm sure that for $1000.00 there will be things. So far the only replacements have been wheel bearings and the exhaust, so it's a good find, but now the check coolant light is coming on. It seems pretty random. I haven't been able to notice a pattern of when or why, and it doesnt seem to coorespond with anything I or the car is doing. It will come on for 1 or 2 seconds, and then go off, and it wont come back on again for several days. There is plenty of coolant in the radiator, and in the overflow resevoir. The temperature of the engine is fine, and the cooling system seems to work fine (it gets 1/2 way on the heat guage, and then cools down with the fan & coolant). The heater pumps out great heat, and I don't see any puddles or leaks. There is a slight hum from the engine compartment that I think is an alternator bearing going bad, but I'm not positive. The only other thing wrong that I've noticed is that occasionally (not always) I get a burning smell through the fresh air vents. Any ideas?
