I am fixing up an early 91 Escort LX (made 10/90) having the square toothed belt system on its 1.9L. As I already have a new 1.9L water pump and used cam sprocket for a round toothed belt, is there any reason I cant just get a round toothed crankshaft sprocket, and use a new round toothed belt? ??
I figure the new type belt is better than the square tooth type, since the tooth shape and height seems a better design. I will be pulling the engine out to install new piston rings, seals, and probably a valve job, as well as pulling the F4EAT tranny to rebuild it; the tranny is slipping badly.
