Is it possible to change out a single dome light with a map dome light on a '98 Escort?

    yes.

it's plug and play, but one screw threads into a different part of the roof/headliner and is stiff going in.

it was simple just had to drill different holes. Map style mount screws in different location.

I can get a pic for you. I don't recall any issues with screws.

No screw issue here either. Literally plug and play swap.

Wow, I had to drill new holes. the original only had one mount screw in the center and the map style has 2 opposing corners. It wasn't a big deal but it just to a minute with the makita...

This was one of the first things I changed on my '97. I don't remember having to drill any holes for screws.
