Hey, I have a full staight back exhaust from the manifold to the muffler except for the cat. I want to remove the cat but not sure how. I am trying this on a 1993 1.9L SEFI, the major problem is that the o2 sensor is in the same housing, its before, but i cant remove the cat without removing the o2 housing, has anyone done this yet, and how or any ideas

PLEASE dont take out your cat...there are tons of highflow cats on the market right now that will give you the flow you want without letting all those nasty hydrocarbons into the atmosphere. the miniscule power gain youll get by removing the cat altogether is really not worth the damage it will do to the air...there, im done preaching

Leave the cat on, you drive an econobox LX. You won't gain much from having no cat, and you'll help to kill us all just that much faster.

the last thing is this world needs is another loud/smokey escort LX.

now if it was a GT, more power to ya.. the decrease in backpressure makes a world of difference..

I swear its a good thing I don't have an LX or they would think I'm unfit to run this site!

anyway. leave the Cat. get yourself a highflow unit. I think I can get them for around $75? I'll have to look it up. If you have no muffler and are racing with it then I'd consider it but still there is no big reason to get rid of it.

eric has a point..... it's a 4 cylinder engine we're talking about, that, chances are, gets about 25 mpg...... that might kill somebody if they sucked on the tail pipe for 50 years........ but that's about the same with smoking...... why don't you tell everybody to quit smoking??? and save ALL our lives?????? second hand smoke kills more than global warming will.......

I'm always around to prove that 1.9's (lx/pony) don't have to suck :tongue1: . Plenty of other guys too .

As for the cat, either keep it on there or get a high flow. I ran without one for about a year, and it's too loud and leaves a pollutant residue on the back of your car from the dirty exhaust.
