I know, I know, carbon fiber belongs on a race car, not an escort, so don't give me that schpiel, I dont care. I just want to know how to mold it, shape it, and how to make it strong (I.E. hood. Think Evo 8 hole, and escort RS style side vents :wink: ). I was thinking of getting a spare hood, cutting the support out of it, using the skin as a mold, and having some expensive fun, lol. I was also thinking of doing some interior parts. I need to know how to select weights, weaves, how to mold it, and all that good stuff. Thanks. Josh.

zxturner sells carbon fiber hoods.Carbon fiber is the same process as you would with fiberglass.

I would asume it'd be similar to molding fiberglas, the best bet though is to ask boat makers or, if you can, hood makers. Its simple (well when youre making/repairing surfboards for dough in college, which I don't do anymore since I moved back to Austin) after a while, so try little pieces first, once you learn how to get the bubbles out you'll have an excellent quality hood. As for taking out the supports, I'd try to stiffen up the hood some other way. Because if your dumb friend sits down on it, you will have every right to beat the hell outta him and that would just ruin the friendship.

actually most quality carbon fiber parts are vacuum molded. fiberglass can me molded without a vacuum because it requires filler and blocking to be finished. the hardened resin is the finish for traditional carbon fiber products.
