DAMN that is a good price.

So.... can you tell us yet what the deal is gonna be on the window hardware? Are there gonna be tracks built in so we can use stock windows? Do we have to transfer the tracks? Or is it just going to be set up to use solid pieces of lexan or nets?

Carbon fiber hood...carbon fiber hatch...carbon fiber doors...fiberglass bumpers...lexan windows...if I guy wanted to he could make a pretty lite escort!!! I'm guessing like 200lbs lighter!!!

Allright---talked to the Carbon guys today---he said everything will fit/work just like the normal door---window tracks, manual windows, power windows, latches etc...I was going to wait til this weekend to strip them, but had one of the guys do it this morning---should be ready to send out early next week.

Man it seems like it's been 6 months---it's only been 2, but feels like forever...without further ado---fresh out of the molds (before they're buffed)---Carbon Fiber Escort Doors!!!!!!! Next week they'll get test fit and then shipped off to the customer. Providing the fit is good they will be available for purchase next week...

Hard to tell from the photo's---I'm guessing they are about 10lbs each. The stock ones fully loaded were 70lbs each---if you run lexan in these you'll save probably 50lbs a side...

Ok got a set back to the shop---they are very nice---better than the hatch's in finish/less imperfections. They are 11lbs and feel pretty solid on the lower sections, flimsy on the top like if you grab the window frame and try an slam it, it would crack. I've flash burned my eye's so bad welding I'm crying tears of joy as I write this/look at the doors---I'm heading over to the ER to get some help, so I won't be bolting them on until tomorrow morning...I'll post those pics then and for now here ya' go!

Ok bolted them on today for the test fit (had to run a tap through the threads...UGG!!!) and there pretty darn good---we're going to make some adjustments in the upper portion to make them more solid, but I think we did pretty damn good!!!

Man these would look good on a black escort with a carbon hood/hatch!!! I dropped the doors back off to have the areas strengthened and to make adjustments in the window frame. Should have them sorted out tomorrow/Monday...I was figuring out the weight savings of the whole kit with lexan and it's nearly 200 pounds lighter in just bolt-ons alone!! I believe someone could gut an escort and have a sub 2000lb car at the track!!!

Our enduro cars weigh less than 1900 pounds without any carbon fiber panels. That means we could get below 1700 pounds with carbon fiber panels! (And I'm actually playing it safe! I'm sure it's below 1900 pounds, because we gut them so much!) Problem is, carbon fiber won't hold up for our applications. :( We do alot of bumping and rubbing, so it would crack.... And there's a $1000 claim rule if we win, and the carbon fiber panels alone cost more than that. But I'm betting I could lower my lap times a couple tenths!

These may also be available in fiberglass if anyone's interested---they aren't really for street cars---and certainly not safe on a race car without a rollcage with adequate doorbar's---I'm sure they will end up on both, but I'm just sayin'...

i may be a bit behind in times, but what are the odds of getting fiberglass/carbon fiber hoods/hatchs/doors for the 1st gen Escorts?
