I have a 1990 ford escort LX. I went on vacation for about two weeks, got back and my battery was dead, due to the fact that I left the ignition switch on running the electrical. Well I went out and got a new battery, worked great. well the next mourning I went out to start my car and the battery was dead again, this time checking to see if I have left the ignition switch on and it was not. I looked around to see if anything else was left on could not find nothing, if somebody could help that would be great. Thanks

Come up with that on your own, or did your mommy help you :D

Actually, there are quite a few things that can cause that... Being that you left the all the accessories on for a week, you could have messed up the voltage regulator in the ALT or something in the charging system.. Not allowing the proper output to all the accessories and the battery... In turn ruining the new battery.. If a platelet in the battery is warped it can make a dead cell, that drains the other cells of their power while ALT is not charging.

Your first battery might have died if the alternator is shot. Then, the second battery might have had to work overtime is you ran the car.

Often, batteries die because the alternator died first. Check your alternator. A voltmeter with the engine running can test it.

Your battery is still useful. Recharge it and it'll still be good for a long time.

Could be the ignition switch. $45 at NAPA. gotta take the steering colum off and take it out, pretty easy to do. I have gone through 2 in 10 years. Exact same problem as you are having.

Go get a free load test done on the alternator. Most places do it for free anyways! Cause if your alternator is dead, it won't be charging your battery.

Thank you everyone for you help. The problem has been fixed. Turns out the alternator was bad and it was not charging the system. Once again Thanks
