I have a 2002 ford escort and im looking to do an engine swap that will allow RWD conversion as well. So Im asking will a 99 miata engine work in an 02 ford escort? an answers are appreciated.

the miata is a 2.0 and the escort is a 2.0 so they should swap right in place

A swap like this is kind of a make it up yourself thing. I've only heard of a couple RWD swaps on these cars and nobody on this forum has done one. Get yourself a tape measure, welder, plasma cutter, and have fun.

Anything is possible with a little ingenuity and patience. You don't even need the right tools for the job. On second thought, I take that back, you WILL need a welder.

As said before, there were people that started doing a RWD swap, but none have come to fruition that I recall. An AWD swap would maybe be a little more doable if it were based on Escape parts, or maybe the old Mazda 323 GX (iirc)

Depending on the stance you want you may have to fabricate a drive shaft tunnel.....

the tunnel present on the zx2 for the exhaust will fit a driveshaft when using the miata trans and rear end. Even when you put v8 and use rear from 6cylinder thunderbird it fits with t-5 trans. I am unsure about fitting if using aod or c4 but t-5 will allow drivesahaft to fit without modifying the floor (well, except modify for shifter hole)

Interesting. Looking at it I would never have guessed there would be enough room to run a driveshaft.
