After losing a car recently in a wreck I am thinking about adding an Escort. After my recent project and all the learning experiences I've had wrenching on mine and seeing how easy it is to work on compared to the newer cars in family I want another one. I have a few questions.

What's a fair price and a maximum price to pay for one?
I may rebuild it to prevent another valve seat drop. I'm looking for a 2000 or newer. Are there many changes after these years? I know the valve cover and Pcv setup is different. Mainly just want another reliable car.

I would not pay more than $2k for any US Escort. Also, at $2k that would have to be a very clean, low mileage, 'Scort

I was looking at one at a used car lot. Probably a '99 and they wanted $2400. 180k on odometer. Problem with car lots is they like to mark up a lot. Also, it had fog lights!

Too much. These cars have terrible resale value which can be a plus.

It sucks but you can also get a really good car for next to nothing, if you look around for awhile.

Problem is, I don't have a while. I would gladly buy a Escort with a bad engine and rebuild it, if time allowed. Everything I'm seeing on craigslist is too much and around 2k, some are 3k, and others don't have much info.

I wouldn't consider taking $2000 for my one owner, garage kept, 32K mile '97 wagon. It may be a 17 year old car, but it's still in practically new condition.

That's what I would like to find. A single owner car that was taken care of, and still looks in great shape.

There are a few of them out there you just have to find them. The only reason my '97 is such low mileage is because I've drove other older cars for daily drivers and kept the wagon for trips, usually 500 miles or more. When I bought the '97 I kept my '88 Pony. Between the Pony and other cars I own/have owned we've put about 400K miles on other cars since we've had the wagon.

Yea, but I'm not finding many low mileage cars on Craigslist in my area. I will try to look around Lexington. and Cincinnati since they are both big cities also.

Tracer? I'd take a Tracer any day with NO OFFENSE to our Escorts, and though I'm a SW fan, I'd take THAT Sedan with a smile. That is, AFTER I hit the lottery.

$6,950 I know, but look at the odometer miles; 35.7K. But it's only dreaming material for ME.

Significant trivia: The photography style and skill shown; all the angles I'd want to see. Now THAT is the way to display/sell. Of ALL those photos, only two really needed improvement; the center instrument panel [radio/heater controls] and the trunk, but WOW...... nice car.

Still a 16 year old car no matter the mileage...I'd be concerned with all the rubber and plastic that are likely dry-rotted.

Looks like it might've been "garaged" to me???????? but I agree; that IS important to consider.

Other than a wreck, what would cause a rebuilt title?

^Anything that could damage the car to the point that the insurance company totaled it. They totaled ShakeZilla19's Escort because it needed a hood, fender and header panel.
