Brake squeaking

    when I let off the brakes it sounds like I dieing bird? I’m assuming by the sound it’s a spring but don’t know where

    Could be the "squealers" that indicate the asbestos is getting thin.

    A aqueaker tell-tale could certainly be the cause; but with my old hearing, I generally dont hear those. Instead I periodically check the pads on the front brakes.
    I had one of the springs in the rear brakes snap, and make a squeaky sound now and then. The noise was fairly loud. I drove it home and parked it - till I could pull the brake drums off. Sure enough, one of the spring that keeps the shoes in place was lying in the bottom of the drum, getting caught between the drum and the shoe at times.
    They sell kits of new brake hardware; so I installed a set of those.
