As the subject states, my brake lights stay on. I purchased a new brake light switch and installed it and when I plug in either the new or old switch the brake lights come on.

The wires feel okay all the way to the bundle, and the connector looks good.

Any ideas?

Is the brake light switch adjusted properly?

is the stopper broken ? There should be a rubber stopper that the switch touches when the brake is not depressed - it attaches to the braket under the switch - is it missing?

That was it, the blue sponge thing. Last night in the dark, I felt the gap between the swtich and the plate and though it was supposed to be there and the plate would somehow engage the switch when the brake was depressed.

It hit me when I was browsing the forums and saw this post.

Thanks to DragScort for the post on the other forum and this one that set me straight about the switch and thanks to cklaubur for having the right answer even though I was too dense to see it for what it was.

Great bunch of people here, I appreciate you all.
