What you painted is called the Valve/Rocker cover (different names to different people/parts stores).

SOHC stands for Single Over Head Cam.

Next time you´re bored, you can paint my valve cover if you really want to. It´s covered in oil and leaks everywhere. j/k.

What type of paint and cleaner did you use, and how long did you have to leave it to dry? I´ve wanted to paint mine for a while, but everyone says it takes days to dry. Then again, these people are generally unintelligent, and no longer work at the store.

Thanks in advance for any info!

I used a spray paint called "Dupli-Color , Engine Enamel Ceramic, 500 Degree heat tested" the color i used was Ford Blue DE1601, I used the same brand "Dupli-Color" Enmal marker for the letterings, which came out alot smoother and cleaner the i thought it would, if your seriously thinking about panting it, when you take it off you gotta clean and sand it pretty good and get it all smooth, and get the leak problem fixed cuz i dont think u would want it leakin on a freshly pantied valve cover lol

This one´s for Infini_IV - long as you use a high-temp paint you should be fine. Clean the valve cover really good and thoroughly dry. Give it two good coats at first, let dry (takes about 30 minutes), then hit it again. Let dry again for 30 minutes then carefully install. The paint will cure while the engine is running so make sure your gas tank is filled up and let it idle for an hour. I did mine a while back in a deep blue metallic flake - think it was dupli-color brand, and it´s beautiful. Try it - sure brightens the engine bay.

for lettering on my valve cover, i just wanted it to stay the polished aluminum so i bought tool dip. took a toothpic and covered each letter with the tooldip, and then sprayed the cover. after i was done i used a knife and sliced off the layer of tooldip and it was perfect. you can get tooldip at any autoparts store.

Is it okay to just take the cover off like that, or is there something I should use to cover up the valves and stuff? Is it possible to paint the cover with everything on...probably not. My carb intake thing blocks off one side of the valve cover.

I sprayed down my engine once...got some water inside the valve cover, by the plugs. damn that was scary when i drove it, i thought my car was done. i took a leaf blower and took out the wires and blow dried it. it worked fine afterwards.
