Couple of questions related to BOVs and boost controllers:
    1. I'm running a TurboXS dual stage boost controller and I'm getting 3-4psi spikes before the boost settles out. I called them and they recommended drilling the opening out a little but that has not helped. My lines are very short (controller is mounted to the valve cover next to the turbo) and I'm using the second stage for high boost. I have enough fuel for ~15psi but I can't turn it past 13psi because of deto when it initially spikes. The only other thing I can think of is it may be the crappy T25 wastegate outlet design or my downpipe design. I've heard DSMs have some boost spike issues at higher pressures. Thoughts?

    2. I'm running a type S knockoff BOV and it makes an annoying whistle when not boosting or at full vac. Would tightening the adjustment rod cure this?

BTW-car is running awesome and pulls nice now that I have traction. I'll try to finish my camera mount and get some vids up this week :D

dok I had that same BOV and it did the same on my car. Everytime I let off the throttle a few seconds after that a light whistle would emerge  . Nothing you can really do about it. When my friend put it on his civic with a baby turbo off a Mazda mx-6 it didn't make the noise however  .

It's probably just light boost flutter. It could be leaking though, not sure. I know my hks sqv flutters (sounds like a bird call almost) when it comes off light throttle.

I had a cold air intake on in this vid, but if it sounds like this or a quieter version of this then thats compressor surge. AKA the turkey call. IE I have a turbo, do you?

No turkey call here, it's literally a whistle like one of those old-school slurpee straws that made the whistle noise when you blew through it...

I have heard of some BOV that when the air releases to the atmospehear instead of making a loud psssshhhh it makes weard noises like a turky call and other stupid shit like that.

I heard one a couple years back that sounded like gas being passed, no joke.

The Type S makes that type of sound. The fluttering sound is called surging and is not good for the turbo .. the air isn't being released all at once and going back against the compressor wheel of the turbo which will reduce the life of the bearings big time.

So are HKS BOV's a bad choice? Or is it due to the location of the vacuum source or length of hose to the bov or the calapsing of the line? What causes it to happen? I am thinking of getting the HKS SSQV...is this going to happen to my BOV??

is teh 'whistle' sound something like this?

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=UJ3eenmNTdo

i heard its because the type s bov has this machined lip on teh inside that makes that noise. the greddy rs bov doesnt seem to have that 'whistle'

no the hks is one of the best choices... compressor surge should not be a problem with the hks. I have heard of NO complaints of the hks other than sound preferance... one of the best bov's IMO

Tightened it up a little and the whistle seems to have gone away at idle. Seems to spool a little quicker too, wonder if I was leaking boost....

more than likely. if you have the type s or knock off let the car idle while u adjust the screw. tighten it down until the valve is fully closed at idle.

u should be good after that.
