Well, if you want to do a GOOD job, then you'll need the top brace from a BMW. The top brace is the thing that the radiator attaches to on the top. Only thing is that the BMW one is zig-zagged to accomidate the headlight housing. Then you can either put the entire top brace on the car, or you can just use the headlight sections. I had pics of all this until my sister took all my computer stuff cause she's off for the fall semester. Perfect, I know. Arg.

Anyway, it takes a lot of time and meticulous work. You'll keep the same mounts for the grille and the corner lights. You'll see that the stock headlight housing actually supports the grille and corner lights, so you have to essentially destroy the stock headlight brackets to keep the corner lights and grille on there. The whole modification took me a couple afternoons of work to do, but the end result are lights that are so much better in light quality and appearance than stock. Especially with the 200 dollar ellipsoids I'm going to put on my 95EGT in a week or two :)

Anybody want pics of it when I get the angeleyes in? That's what I thought :)

Yo, LilCe, check out the edit button for each of your posts  No need to post 3 times.. and don't appologize.. I'm not getting on your case :p

BMW e36 3 series ( '92-'98 ) headlamps. The US ones have plastic lenses, and the european ones have glass lenses.

Siragan,

Since it sounds like you took your time, planned it out and made it work....how are the angle adjustments made? BMW or Ford?

While the BMWs have a pretty flat front end, it's not as flat as the EGT/Protege, just wondering how the beam pattern is and how you achieved a proper pattern.

I was going to do this a few years ago, i had the lights, but i didn't have the time....i backed out with the excuse i told myself..."it's a race car anyways"....but now i'm in on a Protege group buy for some e-spec lights. Easy bolt in w/plug and play....

But, i'd do the channel and chop thing with the top frame mount from the BMW, and now that i think of it, if thats how you did it, then my above adjustment question is anserwed :) ...BMW

Darryl,
Concerning the angle of the lights with respect to the front of the car, despite what it may look like, the BMW lights actually angle more than the stock EGT lights. What I mean by this is that the EGT has a "flatter" front end than the bmw does. The e36 lights on my 91 line up flush with the parking lights on the outer edges and then protrude slightly in front of the grille on the inner edges. To "fix" this you can extend the mounting bracket for the grille fowards, but it honestly isn't noticeable at all.
You can have the lights sit flat against the car, but then you have a very narrow field of light. I hope that answers your question. Sorry I don't have pics, my sister just took my 91gt and my computer down to white plains on friday so I literally have nothing to present.

Beemer? Yuck! you escort owners are not like us in norway.
Here it is I love ford and hate BMW, or Yo wassup! I got a BMW, and I hate fård!!
What you are thinking about doing is just plastic surgury for me.
It may look nice, but its fake, its not ford.
Just my opinion :D
Good luck anyway, post us the pictures when you finish it.

This is true. But I personally don't like BMWs. They are luxury cars which happen to drive well. They really don't fit into the sport compact class because they weren't really designed to be so agressive. It was more designed with comfort in mind, and then it also happens to be a "driving machine". Regardless, I probably will never own a bmw ...unless it's an M-class :)

Anyway, the lights are a great upgrade. I'm getting the expensive 200 dollar ellipsoids to put in my 95GT, and those will be SWEET (especially with the angeleyes I'm putting in them), but even with the "crappy" 4-series E36 lights, the light output is so much better than what the stock escort headlights can even touch. I got used to driving my 91GT with the bmw lights and at night I'm perfectly comfortable because I can see everything in front of my car. When I got my 95GT and I was forced to go through the adirondacks at night, I had to slow down considerably because the light output just wasn't there.

The bmw lights therefore allow you to go faster (at night) and thus justify cost. I know the rest of my car isn't BMW, which is unfortunate, but at least I got something.

I wanted to argue the thing about BMWs being luxury cars and not agressive.. but unfortunately I can't do that. At one time they made lightweight sedans that could run circles around nearly anything else on the road (early adopters of lightweight independent suspensions and high rev motors).. but as they became more popular for being nice cars they began to pile on the luxury and ignore the sport. 30 years ago BMW didn't need the Motorsports division to make a sports car.

If you ever get the chance to drive a well maintained or restored 70's BMW hard, take it... I'm sure it'll be agressive enough for you.

I got to take a ride in a friend's something or other bmw. It was old as hell and he had the interior gutted out. Man it flew. Yeah I agree, the old stuff was nice. Just basically insanely well engineered boxes on wheels :)
