Thanks......I didn't see anything about it in my Haynes. It was a plastic box, about 4x6. It didnt appear to dissipate heat in any kind of way so I'm going against it being an amp. I was just curious........Thanks again

umm... grn94gt did say it was under the Ashtray, it probably is the ECU, it would be pointless to have am airbag anywhere near your ashtray... it would just pop out and throw your butts all over you nice clean upholstry, that is, if you smoke.

he told you where the ecu is..... see, it is the airbag module, that has the blue plastic cover on it, because the airbag module just controls when the airbag pops out of the steering wheel. there's sensors in the front and back of the car, that can tell when there is an impact over i believe 35 mph. the sensors send the signal to the airbag module, the module then tells the airbag to deploy. the amplifier, has no plastic cover on it, because the amplifier heats up, and it would just be a fire hazard. plus, the amplifier, since it heats up so much, it needs to be uncovered to dissapate as much heat as possible, which is why amplifiers have those little fins off of the sides. but it is most definitely the airbag module that he is talking about (the blue box)

Well where is the amplifer located? i have a 89 escort gt and i always wondered where the amplifer is, my speakers are premium sound ( i dont know if all the gt came with it or not) but they are still the stock speakers and they say 150 watts on the pioneer stock in the back each... so there must be something pushin them because my cd player is only 42watts by 4 channels. How many watts is the amplifer that the car comes with? thanks

it's been a while since i pulled off the console, but it's either right above it or right below it on the 2nd gens, i don't know about the 1st gens. i'll check my manual later  but i'm not sure on the specs of the amp
