This idea came to me when I came across the photo from digital camera .Somebody pressed button on the IR remote control and pointed it on the camera.. So I just wonder what if put a bunch of close IR LEDS around the license plate. You will not see it but camera will. And if someone desided to take a pic of you license plate. Well he will have really bright spot and no license plate number.

Alex...I actually tried this about a year ago on my friend´s car.
IR Led´s don´t work well unless you have them placed right over the license plate. The LED´s are so small that you need at least 50 of them to completely distort the license plate through the eye of the camera.

Thanx Mark thats what I thought.

Hmmm...there IR lights what are much bigger and more powerfull. Something size of 5" neon light will be perfect. Can be mounted between license plate lights. Only problem is to find how powerfull it should be to blind cameras. I´m not that conserned about red lights. More about those cops with speed meters.

this one a little more james bond, but i saw a hot rod a while back and i noticed he didnt have plates. but when he pulled into a parking spot, plates folded down from under his bumper.
you cant take a picture of a plate thats not there..........
if you see a cop just push a button and flip it down.

Yeah there are alot of tricks and if you saw a cop and popped it up more then likely nothing would be said. But, honestly any modification of a plate is illegal. Even all the mini-truckers that put them sideways on their custom tailgates...its technically illegal, but I guess it depends on if the local donut patrol care or not.

I was told the tinted convex ones do a pretty good job of both bending and reflecting the light so the plate can´t be read. So I have those.I would also think if you could hook up a light sensor that was quick enough you could have a counter flash so they wouldn´t even get a pic of the car.Now where are the camera´s?Most get the front I think but when I go through an orange light I never see the flash, only when I stop and watch another car go through a red do I see it.I think some cameras here flash every time the lights change.Probably for cruising control.

nukewater: I used to have one of those back in 95-96 on MyStang. I got one from my Polish friends. But after a while it was getting too popular and cops banned them. They illegle now.

2 way mirror will not work. Folding plate will not work as well. Your plates must be outside of the car. Only thing that will work is a bright IR light. I´ll not experiment on that until I finish my car.
