Now that it´s finally starting to get warm here in PA (yesterday was the first day of spring if you didn´t know) I can finally get around to fixing some things on my car. The first thing that needs to be done is replacing the power steering belt. Right now it sqeals all the time and it´s starting to get really annoying. What I want to know is what is the easiest way to change this belt? I looked under the hood the other day and I really couldn´t tell what needed to be done to get it off. I had a shop change the alternator belt, but I don´t have the $ to let them change this one. Any help would be appreciated, but please be very specific. Oh yeah, its a 91 GT, but you probably already knew that.

Well since I´m working under my car today, I´d say jack it up and remove your passenger side tire and take off the plastic guard inside the wheel well. That´ll give you the room you need to get at your belts 2EGTS. Hope that helps. :-]

I pretty sure it needs to be replaced. I don´t think its ever been changed and the car has 181,000 mi on it. My alternator belt squeeled for awhile, then after it was replaced, it hasn´t done it since.

I need to get that damn plastic gaurd re-fastened. it´s hanging down so if i lock the wheels to the left my passenger tire rubs on it and it sounds REALLY bad. but I lost the screw that i took out of it cause it didn´t want to go back in there and I gave up. :-|

If you have the 91 gt and the bellt runs your alternator, powersteering and other accessories as well then I have a quick and easy way to replace it.
I just changed mine like a week ago and it had about 80,000 miles on it. Where your belt tensioner arm is, there is a little notch thing on top, get a pair of vice grips and clip them on that notch thing. This allows you to move the arm tensioner very easily, at least it did for me...Anyway, if you change this belt it should go away..Good luck!

Uh lets see. on my 94 the power steering pump is the tensioner. loosen up the bolt for the bracket, then turn the tensioner bolt to the left a bunch to loosen the belt. pull it off and put the new one on. Look in a haynes manual for a nice picture of the bolts to loosen if you are not sure. I can´t remember which belt is on the inside, the alternator/water pump or the PS/air cond. belt. If the PS/air cond. belt is on the inside then take of the alternator belt first.
