Hopefully it´s still cold enough up in Canada that your engine didn´t start to try to get hot enough to weld itself together. I´ve driven without any coolant in my car. but that was when it was below freezing and it was only about 3 or so miles.

Strangely it´s been shorts weather here in Calgary for the past few days. In not complaining, I missed my shorts, just that temperature anywhere in the double digits (Celcius) can´t be good for an engine without cooling.

in Germany I drove a bit further than that with the water pump shot...had to get home...but as long as I kept moving it stayed cool enough....was very lucky....it´s not something I would do for fun....but I changed the water pump and timing belt the following day

If the water pump isn´t working at all, due to a broken belt, then there´s nothing to circulate the water. Saying the water temp at the sensor was okay doesn´t mean that there isn´t a hot pocket of water around some of the cylinders or in the head.

first of all if your, surpintene or how ever you spell it, had brok your water pump will still work, you cant drive far but you can still drive, since the timing belt is what drives an escorts water pump.second of all if both of your belts came off, you DO NOT want to put them back on. you need to replace them. you should also replace your water pump each time you replace your timing belt.

preventive maintinance. you dont want to have to take the belts back off again just because it went out after you put your belts on. trust me it will be better for you in the long run. plus its factory recomended. dont go the cheap way.go the better way.

I have to replace my timing belt, and I will probably not replace my water pump when I do so, because chances are the price of a water pump is more than the worth of my car :)

If it just fell off then I´m sure that it´s old and weak. Which is why you should replace it with a new belt. besides why would you want to do all that work to put it on and then it can possibly break two weeks later?

btw...my water pump seems to be just fine. when my belt broke the shop that replaced it said nothing about replacing my water pump...but I dunno I haven´t had problems with it.
