    It isn't about rocks, it's about having your engine ingest dust, dirt and grit which destroys it's ability to seal the valves and rings. Which of course shortens the life of your engine. How stupid is it to build an high performance expensive engine and then destroy it because you are being stupid not running an air filter system. Hell, even the NASCAR guys run a filter.

    Then again, you can fix stupid. But fortunately;

    "Stupidity, if left to it's own devices, is almost always self correcting"

    i have to agree with bear on this one, if your building such a sweet boosted ride, why would u just leave the turbo without a filter? no matter how insignificant it may seem, you WILL have crap flying through there right into your motor. im sure it wouldnt be a whole lot of work to squeeze a filter in there, it looks like hes done much more complicated stuff than that, why stop at the filter and compromise your ride? theres no good reason to not have a filter on there. go ahead and bet your money and ride on "a rock will never fly that high in the engine bay at high speeds" much crazier sh!t has happened.

    just my 2 cents,

    have you guys ever seen a filter directly on a turbo? after time it will get distorted adn twisted. it breaks down from all the turbulance and suction. if anything he neds to get a cheap IC kit or intake and run some aluminum pipe away from the turbo. then it looks nice and works properly for a long time.

    open turbo's are cool at a show or the track. but street use no thank you.

    I guess everyone running itbs without filters are morons also? For one you should get off that high horse your on and get level on the ground. Now that you've done that its a good feeling right? Now instead of calling people that do what they want to do to their cars morons you should say something to the extent of "its bad because its not filtering the air particals and dirt". Just because its been done a certain way for so long doesn't make it wrong. Sure they don't get the same air filtration that a normal car does but that doesn't make it essentially wrong. Oh and i've ran a car without a air filter before also.

    for those of you that don't think rocks can get up that high, go find my thread of my second escort turbo build... whant ended it and started the 3rd build was the 14B ingesting a rock because the factory rubber inlet tube ripped because it was soft from oil from the PCV line... It can happen.

    With a turbo that big stuff can get sucked up into it from the ground when it hits boost. Atleast you should probably run a screen so you dont suck up any rocks, bugs or leaves.

    Well, if it's any consolation the car is nearing 4 years of turbo, screenless, filterless life.

    I daily drove the red car for 2 years before I picked up my daily driver. It still has never sucked in any debris.

    I have an E85 bigturbo SRT 4 that is currently my daily driver.

    I've picked up an 01 Cobra convertible to turbo as well, and I'm looking for an Escort GT to modify and then daily drive as well.

    HOLY THREAD RESURRECTION

    I do have two fully built Teksid motors sitting in my garage. One for the Red car when that motor goes out, and one of the yellow car, whenever that one goes out.
