So I was crusing down Gratiot, one of our large roads... it´s 4 lanes both ways, and this is where everyone races (and rices) around at on Friday and Saturday nights. Well I was cruisin´ around looking for some Cavaliers or Neons to burn, when I see the perfect one. An earlier model, purple, tinted windows, loud bass, "thug" white boy with the baby blue visor cocked sideways, and a big DODGE decal across the back window. Well I hit the turn around quick and catch up to him, hoping to hit a red light. We cruise thru some patches of traffic and some green lights until I catch up to him, and I rev up to 3500 and drop it in 4th. I zip by him, and slow down so he can catch up. And that´s where it happend.

We cruise side by side at about 50 (limit is only 40) and then all the sudden I hear it. *WHIRRRRRRRRRRR* He just shoots foward and gets about 5 car lenghts ahead of me. It had to be a turbo or something, but needless to say, I made sure I didn´t hit any red lights next to him for the sake of my pride. :-?

if it was a Neon and he got 5 carlengths...it wasn´t fake. I can guarantee it. Unless it was fake and it was a completely rebuilt R/T. but he said it was an older model. Why not just go buy an SRT-4 if you want a turbo? Oh well, this route was prolly cheaper. Anyway....yeah. I´m sure it wasn´t fake if he got that kinda length on him.

get u an air tank and a compressor that will run off of 12v to fill it with air..there is your compressed air.

Well you said you were cruising at about 50 right?It is possible that he just hit third and dumped the clutch to get that jump then shifted again to fourth as you were just gettin what had happened.Rolling races are hard to guage as far as what happened.If I had lost I would try and get a look under the hood. I have a tendancy to do thet anyways when I see a group of people hangin around some tuner type cars I will stop and ask who´s fastest and when they start braggin I´ll say "I gottsta check that shit out" most will crack the bonnet and wait for me to blow some wind in there sails.But I´m just in it to see what I´m up against.I almost challenged a tubbed and dumped S-10 extreme but I saw him in a lot first and he had a blown 383 stroker, whew I would´a got spanked.He had traction bars and stiff rear springs and those mt 50´s could not have been street legal because I saw no dot symbol.

Dont feel to bad, I had a lil bastard in a new Neon last night packing boost whoop up on my ass..Pissed me off too..just wish I had 3rd gear still,I think it would have been a lil more evened out..but oh well, things are soon to be changing though,hehehehehe :twisted:

Yeah, rolling races are so hard to judge, and 5 lengths - remember, some engines run better than others from the factory. If you make a hundred thousand anythings some will be way better than the rest. That and an intake and exhaust on those neons really wakes them up. They are so constrictive it is unreal.

not to say anything bad about escorts or sound like a neon fan, cuz im not, but my older brother has had two, one was stolen the other is a strictly sounds car. Thats besides the point, his first one was stick, and it was pretty quick i must say, if he drops it into fifth then he gets quite a jump, after that its over, and they do have some pickup.....not much, but there is some... just my insights on this.

Nope. Stock for stock a base Neon (0-60: 9.1) will take a 93 Escort LX (0-60: 11.1). Although a 91-96 GT (0-60: 8.4) will take a base Neon, while both the LX and GT will lose to any R/T (0-60: 7.5) & of course the new SRT-4 (0-60: 5.6 seconds is the fastest time I've heard of).

next thing u know, u'll put a kazzoo on ur intake to get the spool up sound. :roll:

well i haven't been trounced by a neon yet in my '93 lx. none have been r/t's though, they've all been earlier year base model (well so am i... :))
these have been both at the line starts and rolling starts. either they were all letting me win (highly likely not the case, they were all punk-types), or they gots no skillz, man. a couple of them were a tad modded, one with dual fart exhaust / bodykit, other with some window squiter neons and stuff. still, they had nothin on me *shrugs*

not a kazoo. The kazoo is that thing you made in kindergarten with the paper towel tube and the wax paper and rubber band...

you mean that thing that you get at parties when you were 7 years old and you blow and it goes "whiiirrrrrr"

lol I seriously think I'm gonna try that. I'll unplug my PCV connection on the plenum and route it to that whirring thing LOL

LX and GT owners alike have to watch out for the R/T Neons. They are pretty quick. A GT can take one if you catch them asleep at the line or if the miss a shift. One thing that really makes a difference, is making sure that when you shift you do it FAST! At the strip I almost never take my foot off the gas once it hits the floor. Thats what rev limiters are for. The only exception is the shift to second, I will back peddle it just a touch to keep from breaking the tires loose.
