Did the spider gears move while the axles were out?
The clutch fork is attached to the trans via a ball, and a tension spring. You could pop it off relatively easy if need be, inspect, and replace as long as the throwout bearing doesn't come off.
You said it shifts fine at the fork after axles were installed? Maybe bad shifter bushings? Shift linkage needs to be greased?
Let me try again
After engine and trans were installed and bolted down and clutch was bled , I could shift into gears. I put it in 1st and 2nd for sure , don't know if I went threw all the gears.
Then I installed suspension axles brakes and tires. I lowered car to ground and moved it out of way. I went to put In to gear and it felt funny. I kinda jerked the shifter and it is now froze.
I disconnected the shifter rod from trans and it will move freely. I can move the shifter fork (part on transmission that shifter linkage hooks to) in and out, but it won't rotate. This should rotate when you are moving the shifter from side to side.
Since the last post I have removed the axles and even the speed sensor since it was installed around the same time. It is still froze up...
is it stuck in a gear? when mine got bent it got stuck in 3rd cause i kinda forced it in
Also, did the trans get any kind of shock or bump? That would knock the gears out of place. Some use a broomstick covered in electrical tape to keep the gears aligned if the trans is removed for any reason.
well, i guess im just gonna replace it. ive never taken a trans apart and not sure if i would know what im looking at if i did dismantle it.
i was told i threw the transmission out of my way when i was pissed off a few months back. i guess i caused some damage then.
just wondering, did you try to jack the car back in to air and see if that releases the bind.
on a side note...... you threw your transmission because because you were pissed. remind me never to upset you. gezz
yea i jacked it back up removed axles tried it, still stuck , reinstalled them tried again, still stuck, then gave up...
Been looking for a trans the past few weeks with not a lot of luck. Best deal i could find online was 250 shipped. I ended up finding a complete running gt that has a bad clutch for $250. The guy lived about 1 1/2 hour away and even delivered it! This is a northern car and holy crap i see what you guys fight up there. I have never seen a car come apart from rust before but this one is doing exactly that. Im gonna take the engine and trans out in the next few days and put this car in my garage sale as well for parts , so keep a eye out.
Its alive! Took this with the iphone so it sounds like shot. Sounded better on my phone than what you can hear now.
at least someone looked at the vid haha. more to come soon
Awesome man! Glad to see it is running again!
Me 2 Dave. I will really be smiling when i get to drive it
cool, ive had a few project cars fall to the side. they usually end up sold after a year or so though. Congrats getting it back together
thanks i just cant let go of this car. im thinking it will be in my garage till i die!
i pulled engine and trans out of the second parts car this past weekend. Got them seperated and tons of clean up done on the inside. I have never seen a clutch disk make such a mess. Last night i pulled the turbo engine and trans out AGAIN and will be swapping the trans maybe tonight or for sure by the weekend.
That is all for now
Any ideas on how to get a stuck speed sensor out? I have messed with it the last hour and cant get it out. This is in the trans from the red car so like everything else corrosion has everything hard to take apart, and i dont want to break it.
After fiddling with mine for a couple minutes I tried a chisel but it ended up breaking a bit off. So then I looked at it for a minute and got a pair of channel locks and was able to twist and lift it out of the transmission.
