My 91 EGT has a strange behavior for the first five miles after I start it up. My temperature gauge slowly climbs to the "H" then does a free fall to the normal position. Does this sound like a thermostat going bad? Or could it be my gauge sensor?

new motor = 1500 bucks to have a shop do it
id try replacing it, there is no point in not then you can work on the sensors... there is a was to test the sensors with a DVOM but you would need the correct values (ford workshop manual... like 100 bucks from ford for the escort but 1,000,000,000 better than the haynes and chilton, also my cousin told me it was 100 bucks from ford and im unsure if it was with his discount (30% above cost) or if that was consumer price)
