Had similar issue with defective oil filter that blew seal and seized eng during 30 mi run in one of my 1.9's. Added oil, played with cranking it until it began to turn over, then started right up with bad knock. Runs and drives, but I'd not take it on road at speed, have driven it on 1/10mi driveway under 30, but has bad knock until oil pressure gets normal. Oil light stays on until revved up, then sounds better, but at idle knocks a bit. I'm betting connecting bearings loose, so when I get time will pull pan and check. No excessive blow by, which surprised me! If I replace (before rebuilding unit as I have 3 roadworthy Escort SW's) rod bearings and knock subsides, I'll be pleased but surprised it took such abuse and didn't self destruct. If your eng is seized, add oil and try inching it bit by bit to rotate with synthetic oil (and is reason I believe it actually runs is bc it had synthetic in it). So until I pull and rebuild it I won't know exactly wassup, but have to assume camshaft head surfaces, lifters, pistons, all took lots of wear (what puzzles me is lack of extreme blow by tho). Will post once disassembled wats up or what happens with new conn rod brgs if seems OK, but it starts right up and runs now, drives ok once oil pressure builds up with knock. Amazing

Love these 1.9's!
