I've been looking ALL over and cannot find where the hell this thing is to go. I have a problem with a friends escort. When the tranny is shifted into gear, the car will drive, but won't shift out of 1st gear. Tranny fluid is full and in good condition. I've been told that the vacuum modulator is probably shot. I went and bought one, but DOH i can't seem to find the mofo. I've looked in both the Haynes and Chiltons repair manuals and i cant find anything. My next door neighbor confirmed with me that it sounds like the modulator.

Does anybody know where the heck this thing goes?

The vacuum modulator is just left of the flux capacitor.

j/k :)

If it's any consolation, a guy I know has this same problem on his honda civic (auto tranny, of course).

When he lets off the gas, though, it shifts up. It's kinda weird. I guess that's why I drive standard.

My 95 auto tranny did the same thing. It slowly lost one gear at a time. I bought it with only 1-3 (no OD), then I lost 3rd. I had to drive it home 25miles at 20mph. Not fun.
Your friends tranny is shot, unless you yourself can rebuild one, it's not worth the money. Buy a new tranny. This is the time that I swapped to 5speed.

:D Hey, The escort tranny does not have a vaccum modulator it uses linkage off of the throttle to determine the shift point, or if it is a 91 or newer it is electronicly shifted by the computer, it sounds like the tranny is smoked, Sorry, Chadster

Well I had to wire My '88 Escorts(EFI) Kickdown Linkage(Fords part #7F480) together with some thick 'n' stiff wire(I wrapped the wire around the rod and the Linkage to keep them together so that the tranny will work) to get 2nd and 3rd gears to work again, It seems the Linkage requires a grommet, But wouldn't You know It ford says It's an Obsolete part, I would love to see a photo of Your Linkage. The Rod from the Tranny normally goes in the large hole inside a grommet, But I have It wired in the small hole, It does work, Although now the tranny doesn't rev quite as high now as It used to.
