What you read was for the manual.I havent found a way to lower the shifter for the autos. It might be possible to take a shifter out of another ford auto and use it if it is shorter.I think I have heard of someone cutting the shifter to make it shorter but I am not sure.

I can't remember if I ever did my "how-to" up here or not.
Did it on my buddies Teg also...same principle

Mine is about 4-5" shorter now so I can see my LCD screen now ;)

If you're tall like me, your legs can rub against the button on the shifter and allow it to go into reverse. . .

Never happened, but it's a possiblity.

its a bit involved but really rather simple.

Yeah, that's sort of a paradox pal.

if you saw the how-to you would understand. its a bit of trimming but it has to be meassured out just right or the shifter will not work correctally. once you see the how-to you will understand why i said what i did.

I'm just trying to figure out why you would want to cut your shifter... if it's an automatic? :?

I just want to lower because my car would better funshway and it would better. Hah j/k no seriously it would look a lot better and if my car in park and change the cd the shifter in the way because my cd face folds down. But mainly just because it would look nicer in my opinion

i've never had issues with the faceplate on my cd player. actually, the shifter sits just right where i can rest my arm to change the volume/cds/whatever on the player.

but a mod like that reminds me of a buddy of mine who wanted to get a different stage clutch kit..... for his auto.

It's not that hard. This isn't rocket science. Take the top of the shifter off by removeing the 2 screws. Slide off the plastic sleve. Unscrew the plastice thing on the top. Measure distance of center thread piece to the outer body. Thake pipe cutter and cut outer body to desired legnth. Cut inner thread piece to correct distance from earlier measurement. Cut plastic sleeve to correct legnth. Drill and tap two new screw holes for top shifter piece or buy after market auto shift knob and not worry about drilling holes.
