i found turbo on a mazda 626 today...interested, let me know.. turbos are 50 bucks..of course i´d charge a removal fee. but not a whole lot. the turbo is good, its got some rust on the casing, but theres no play in the shaft.
I was wondering about that type of stuff myself actually. I think I´m going to have all the machining done by a shop around town, meanwhile I´m going to start massing up parts (oil pan, cams, pistons, etc) and if I can I´ll put it together myself with some help to save on costs. But I have too much planning left to do. I´m hoping to do it in under 5 to 6k American. But a cleaning, bore increase, freeze plug job, and honing will prolly cost me about 1k by itself. I´m kicking around rough estimates. 500 for pistons. 200 for a crankshaft lightening/balancing. 200 for new cams. Anyone know the cost of a port and polish on the upper and lower intake plenums?
On top of it all I´m getting a new A/C condenser/compressor, Power steering pump, alternator, starter, etc. along with the transmission being rebuilt to handle the turbo with shorter gearing hopefully.
This doesn´t include the cost of the body kitting and the parts I´ve already en massed right now, like my 1.8 block and head w/ intake ($500 so far). Gettin a throttle body for 40 bucks and a front bumper for 50 bucks along with 93 GT seats and a new gauge cluster. (thanks Brian) :-]
Anyway, yeah I´ve put A LOT of thought into it. It´ll all be worth it. just hope I don´t wreck the car, cause if I do I´m gettin a Camaro. ;-)
forgot to add about the turbo itself lol
Yeah I´m going to have my brother in law build me a custom turbo that can boost all the way through the 7k rpm redline. once the engine is balanced I bet I could get the car to spin out past 8k rpm. I had planned on either having my ECU re programmed or finding another one to have reprogrammed, along with a custom turbo, waste gate and BOV. Then I´ll skip off and get a used intercooler and mount that bad boy right out front in the GT front bumper opening. :-]
92gt5spd: That turbo sounds pretty tempting. Tommorow I´m leaving for the coast(a nice, long, boring 8hr drive) and all my money is there at this moment. But hey if i can get the old lady to hold back on all the tourist shit, i might have enough to just have that little piece of heaven!!! We´ll see when i get back. Thanks!! Drop me a line if you find a manual tranny. Ill be gone till next tuesday. :-D
On my 1984 Escort GT It cost ~1100 for the dealer to rebuild it. I called around and nobody would give me a quote for a rebuild over the phone. $1000 sounds pretty good to me. If I had a spare car and some help removing it I'd try rebuilding it myself.
I finally found another GT like mine! In Browntown on top of that, BUT it unfortunately has an owner. I've tried bargaining w/homeboy, but he still insists on $1800. A little steep if you ask me!!
I'm not sure on the year model, but it has the sunroof/moonroof and the weird looking spoiler that kinda wraps around the back end of the trunk. Its an automatic, which wouldn't be so bad I guess. I just want my car running again. It also has some body damage on the passenger side.
I figured if I could get it pretty cheap, then I could use the tranny for the mean time (automatic is better than no car, right?). Then after a few pokes and prods, I could sell the remainder of the parts to yooz guyz!!
My next proposition is... since he's using it for a work vehicle..... I could throw my little work truck in the mix and maybe some cash in for the car.....sound bad?? I don't think so, but we'll see. It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but it is dependable. Wish me luck!!!!!
