All zx2's have the 2.0 DOHC Zetech motor. Zetech stands for nothing more than that's just the name Ford gave to the motor, like their Duratech or Chevy's Ecotec. This is no simiarity to Honda's V-Tech in any way.

and Zetec was actually the second name for the motor. Their was a legal issue over the original name in Europe.

So what was the Zetec supposedly called before it came to the US?

I always thought it was a Mazda engine, not a European Ford engine... :?

The legal battle over the Zetec engine was over it's original design by a german company. Two engines simular designs for two diffrent companies. Same name. the other company purchased first so they got the name. then went out of buissness. Sucks to be them. that was back with the 1.6L design years ago. As for the name I dont remember.

yes that is correct. The name is that just a name, if u go to get parts and it says zetec only that means that is for the dohc not the spi engine (sohc).
