My first week driving my 99 escort went well. I drive a little over 80 miles one way to work, so after putting over 800 miles in a week. I filled up 3 times... I was getting 31-35 mpg, so I am happy with that. It is a 5-speed with 156k miles. So with that, has anyone ever put a bigger fuel tank in?? I would love to fill up twice a week even. I stretched it out to about 360 miles yesterday in one tank, but that was pushing it. I know it's bad on the fuel pump to run it dry, so I probably won't due that. If the tank was just a few more gallons that would help out.

So anyone ever swap a different tank in?? Lots of junkyards by me. So I could find another car easily for a tank...

the GT has a little bit bigger fuel tank. your fuel tank is 12.8 gallons, the GT is 13.2 gallons. not worth it for less than half a gallon of added capacity, thats only an extra 15-20 miles per tank.

Thanks for the reply... and the tank info... Once it warms up around here, I may even look putting a bigger fuel cell in the trunk. I only really plan on driving the car for work. So I don't care about trunk space. It could be an interesting project...

Anyone tried a Contour (15.4gal) tank? From what I've read on the internets, the Contour and Escort are very similar platforms...
